MetroX skin for the VLC Media Player in six different colors
(based on my MetroX skin for J.River Media Center)

(28.12.2012) Release 1.0

(11.09.2014) Update 2.5.2 ~ improved look of the buttons

1. Extract the .vlt file to ...VideoLAN/VLC/skins ~ overwrite if needed
2. Start VLC => Preferences => Check to custom skin

The background is just a dummy and does not display your actual library - i just took the most common album arts / posters
(max. recommended resolution: 2560 x 1440)

If the video frame doesn't seems right, switch to fullscreen and back to windowed mode

If you can't see the control buttons because the videos are bigger than the screen resultion this should help:
- Preferences -> Interface Settings -> Look & Feel
- Switch to "Use native style"
- Uncheck "Resize interface to video size"
- Switch back to "Use custom skin"
Save and close.

Fullscreen buttons won't appear after you change a custom skin.
Restarting VLC should help.

Is there any way to change the font so I can display Japanese?

when i have a video playing and resize the window from its default size, then open and close the side menu, it reverts back to the default size. is there any way to fix this? I would like the window to stay the same size as before opening the menu panel.

Im running vlc on windows 7 64 bit.
When listening to music I used to select a few songs inside the file explorer and than click on "play all" on the window top bar.
VLC than took all of the songs and put them into its playlist.

With your skin that changed. It now opens all songs in seperated instances, eventhough "run in one instance, if opened through file explorer" is still on active.

really nice skin!  Thanks :)
*there is a bug that you can't move the screen from anywhere other then dragging the bottom, but I can live with that, looks great

Yep i know,
there is a invisible text layer over the top bar - so you have to grab it in the left corner or very top / very bottom of the topbar - still annoying i know :/

Special font is the part of MS Metro interface. Pls, change it to Segoe UI.
Also, i found bug of window titlebar: you can't move the window by clicking on the title text.
Windows 8 Window Manager knows nothing about vlc window — snapping, top edge's maximazing, shaking do not work..
But i like this theme, it's pretty nice. Thanks for work ;)

Hi, very very great skin, looks amazing. Is there any chance you could release a hidpi version? so the same skin, but scaled 2x? Maybe even a 150% scale version? this would be so amazing!

hi and thanks for the skin, it really look awesome! i used your other skin (minimal x) but had a problem with subtitles and unfortunately no answers :( i'd like to know if it is possible to use subtitles via dragging them to the playing file using your skin because it is not possible with minimal x.
thanks a lot

Oh sorry i don't answered...
subtitles work nice for me if i select them via right click, but i don't know if they work via dragging because i never have used them.
however - if you change the custom skin, always restart the player
